Project Summary:
City of Taylor GIS
The City of Taylor has identified the need for a GIS-based
Integrated Information Management System that integrates data from
several city departments into one common database in order to
provide city managers with accurate and timely information. The
overall system incorporates several city functions including but not
limited to Permit Management, Code Enforcement, Asset Management,
Work Orders Management, Time Collection, Document Management and
interface to Financial applications. The system is accessed with a
Windows interface and a Web-based interface.
The first phase of the effort to develop a baseline GIS for the City
has been completed. Data was collected from several sources
including City CADD and GIS files, aerial photography,
photography-derived planimetric data, Williamson County Appraisal
district spatial and attribute data, and other public source data
from such sources as the U.S. Census. The spatial data were
converted, topology built, reprojections performed, and edited
either directly or warped as appropriate. Attribute data were loaded
into a database and matched with the spatial data where necessary.
The GIS is in use at the City and provides useful decision support
beginning with the first day of operation.
